Olive Oil Crackers
Do you ever get those weird cravings at weird times – like you suddenly want to eat something really sweet or really savory, and then you just have to eat it. No matter what you do, you just cannot shun that thought off. You have to do something about it, otherwise there is no hope 🙂
I got one of those couple of days ago. For precisely this reason, I dont keep any junk food in my kitchen – like chips and stuff, because if it is there, its as good as being there in my stomach. So what to do?? Make some yourself 🙂
I had read about this very simple quick method of making crackers in the Ottolenghi cookbook. So I went about trying those. One more cookbook recipe of my checklist (nah! it was all about the craving … nothing to do with the darn checklist)
Its very simple. All you need to do is make some dough out of 1 cup of all purpose flour, 1 tsp cayenne, 1 tsp paprika, 1 tbslp oil oil, 1 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp baking powder and water. Keep the dough away in the fridge for 30-40 minutes. Make lemon sized balls of the dough and with a rolling pin, roll out the balls into thin sheets. Try to go as thin as possible. Cut these into vertical strips. Place them in a dusted baking pan/sheet, drizzle some oil, sprinkle some sea-salt and bake in an oven at 300F for about 6-8 minutes. They should turn nice and golden brown and slightly puff up. Let them cool down and enjoy!!!
I just saw this morning, PurpleFoodie has put up a recipe of crackers with a nice garlicky hummus.
